This year, six Walk Leaders led walking conversations on six different routes for Jane’s Walk in Tokyo. The day began with introductory lecture on Jane Jacobs by Shunji, followed by brief description of walks and themes. Then, the 33 participants picked their walks. This year, the theme of all the walks was to explore Kagurazaka, a downtown community that has a nicely mixed sense of both traditional and modern Tokyo, through the lenses of community, literature, townscape, development, innovation and roadways. Under a clear blue sky, the participants had great conversations while walking. After the walks, we reconvened and presented what they had discovered. When we look at a city with the eyes focused on specific issues, we find a lot. By sharing what we saw, we learn even more.
